Ingredient data

Ingredient data: Nutrition Panel Calculator dataset 2026 © Food Standards Australia New Zealand.

Labelwise uses the Nutrition Panel Calculator (NPC) dataset 2026 published by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ). It is licensed under the FSANZ Data User Licence Agreement (based on Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Australia). That licence is based on the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Australia licence.

Limitation of Data Statement

There are limitations associated with food composition databases. Food composition data used in the database or databases may represent an average of the nutrient content of a particular sample of foods and ingredients, determined at a particular time. The nutrient composition of foods and ingredients can vary substantially between batches and brands because of a number of factors, including changes in season, processing practices and ingredient source, and methods of calculation.

Australian data

The work is based on Australian data and Australian data may not be appropriate for use in other countries.

What Labelwise changed

Converted from the FSANZ 'Food details' and 'Nutrient profiles' files: the seven nutrients declared on a nutrition information panel per 100 g, with names, specific gravities and suggested allergens added.

In plain words, this is what we did with the two FSANZ files:

  • What we kept. For each food: its Public Food Key, its name, its description, its specific gravity (so a liquid can be measured per 100 mL), and the seven values a nutrition information panel declares. Nothing else from the files is used.
  • Units and basis. Every value is per 100 g of the food, as FSANZ gives it in the "All foods per 100 g" sheet: energy in kilojoules (kJ), protein, fat, saturated fat, carbohydrate and sugars in grams, and sodium in milligrams. We don't change the numbers.
  • Fibre. The dataset has no dietary fibre values, so Labelwise shows fibre as not known until you enter it.
  • Search. We search the food names by the words you type and return up to 20 matches, names starting with your first word first.
  • What we add when we serve a food. Suggested allergens, warning statements and food additives, worked out from the food's name. They are suggestions for you to check against your supplier's specification, not FSANZ data.

The food data the app serves (at /api/foods) is a derivative work of the FSANZ dataset, and it is available under the same licence.

Labelwise doesn't use the FSANZ logo. FSANZ doesn't endorse Labelwise or any label made with it.

Other material

  • The Health Star Rating graphic is the Australian Government's artwork. Labelwise draws it unchanged, only scaled, as the Health Star Rating System Implementation Guide requires.
  • The country of origin standard mark is drawn as the Country of Origin Food Labelling Information Standard 2016 and its Style Guide require, using the kangaroo logo from the government's own label template.
  • Fonts. The site uses Fraunces and Figtree, and the labels use Liberation Sans. All three are under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1: Fraunces licence, Figtree licence, Liberation Sans licence.
